Afrika Tikkun

Give a Child a Future. It Takes Two Minutes.

Afrika Tikkun has walked with South Africa's children from cradle to career since 1994. Today, 45,000 children and young people are supported through nine centres in Gauteng and the Western Cape. Your gift keeps them learning, fed, and moving toward their first job.

Head Start programme

Head Start
From learning to earning.

A 12-month paid workplace placement with accredited training and one-on-one mentorship, across retail, hospitality, agriculture, finance and tech. It turns matric certificates into first salaries.

360° Social Support programme
Every age
360° Social Support
The safety net under everything.

Counselling, family support, food security, health screenings and disability inclusion that hold the rest of the journey up. Support that reaches the whole family, not just the child.

In 2024 alone: 15,000+ counselling sessions, 2 million+ meals, 7,500+ people supported directly.

Cradle-to-Career 360°

Our Cradle-to-Career 360° model is a comprehensive approach to child and youth development that considers the needs of each young person across different stages of their lives (preschool › primary school › high-school › post matric) by offering a set of programmes to counter the effects of poverty and inequality for each young person that comes through our doors. In this way, we are actively working towards the reduction of youth unemployment in a sustainable manner.

What Your Gift Looks Like in Real Life

Refilwe Abushero, Wings of Life, Diepsloot

Wings of Life, DiepslootSix distinctions. Accounting Science at Wits.

Refilwe arrived in Diepsloot from a Limpopo village at ten, learning in English for the first time. Ignite gave her laptops, structured lessons and mentors, and she became the first in her family to reach university.

I was happier. Everything felt lighter.

Thirty Years of Showing Up

Founded in 1994 by industrialist Bertie Lubner and Chief Rabbi Cyril Harris, Afrika Tikkun has grown from a single programme into nine centres serving communities from Orange Farm and Alexandra to Diepsloot and Mfuleni. The organisation was recently named South Africa's Best NGO at the CSI Legacy Awards, and Nelson Mandela praised its approach as "practical and sustainable".

Every rand is governed by strict controls, external audits and transparent reporting, with annual reviews published every year. Donors and partners are welcome to visit a centre and see the work first-hand. Afrika Tikkun is a registered NPO (021-892) and PBO (18/11/13/2470), with registered charities in the UK and US, and partners including Microsoft, KFC, PepsiCo, Naspers and The Jobs Fund.
